Commander Hamilton enters the empty ready room and feels a wave of nostalgia rush over here. It had been so long since she'd last been in a starship, much too long. She caught a glimpse of herself in the reflection of the glossy, polished desk. The last time she's seen her reflection in a desk she'd been a young, raven haired beauty. She couldn't help thinking about how much things had changed. She exhaled deeply to calm her nerves. What was she getting herself into? She was much too old to be dashing across the galaxy with a crew year her junior. But on the other hand, there was nothing keeping her on earth. She knew as soon as the senior staff arrived she would feel terribly vulnerable, but she had to keep strong. These people depended on her and she fully intended on performing her duties to the fullest despite the disadvantage of her age.

It felt good to be on board the Endeavor finally, even if she was without a captain at the moment. Hopefully that situation would be remedied. For the time being though, Commander Tony Hadyn had been keeping busy. The second he'd been given permission to board the ship, he'd gone to engineering to take a look around. Endeavor seemed sturdy, from what he could see, and the engine room had all the latest bells and whistles Star Fleet had to offer. Time would only tell what little quirks the ship had. No matter how sound a ship was built, there was always something that made one different from the other...or at least that's what Tony thought anyway.
The chief engineer took a break from making the start of what would be the duty roster for engineering and made his way to the ready room. There was to be a meeting of some sort among the senior staff. The diminuative man wasn't sure exactly what there was to discuss at this point. Perhaps just a meet and greet? Any major decisions would be pointless to bring up, until there was a captain for the Endeavor. Maybe that was what the meeting was about. Maybe Star Fleet had finally assigned them a captain for their vessel.
The doors to the ready room parted silently for the slightly overweight man as he approached. Immediately, he noted the presence of a much older woman, one who looked as if she should be in retirement by now. She bore the crimson color worn by all command officers in Star Fleet. From where he stood, he couldn't get a look at her rank insignia. Rather than stand there and stare though, Tony simply smiled kindly.
"You wouldn't happen to be our captain, now would you?"

Dana turned around, a bit startled, to see a stocky gentleman in a yellow uniform standing across the room. She hadn't heard him come in, and she felt somewhat flustered being taken off guard. Clearing her throat she said in her most official tone, "No sir, my name is Commander Hamilton, I will be serving as your second officer aboard this ship." She crossed the room to get a better look at the man, looking at him for a long second she finally recognized him as the chief engineer. She has seen his service profile while overlooking the crew roster before boarding the ship. "Commander Hayden, am I correct?" She questioned, although fairly confident of the answer. He looked like a dependable sort and his service record had shown him to be a reliable and talented engineer.

Second Officer? Commander Hamilton looks old enough to be in admiralty by now, Tony thought to himself, but didn't dare voice.
The engineer placed his hands at the small of his back, clasping them as Dana addressed him. So, apparently she had done her homework. Well honestly, who could expect less from someone in command staff. It would be prudent to know the names of your senior staff afterall. More than likely this elderly woman had gone over his service record. Since he didn't have a spot on it, he wasn't worried. Tony nodded slightly, to let the Commander know she was indeed correct about his identity.
"I see my reputation has proceeded me," he said in an amused tone.
Tony glanced around the room. It seemed so...sterile. Perhaps once more of the senior staff arrived, it wouldn't be that way. His gaze fell to Commander Hamilton once more.
"Any word yet from Star Fleet regarding a captain for the Endeavor?"

Folicia stood out side the door way for a moment looking into the hallway, tempted to find the bridge and see about her duty station. She'd dreamed of piloting one of these big ships for a long time, but then again she was instructed not to for the time being. She guessed they wanted the entire crew's first time on the bridge to be 'magical' and 'uniting' something like a movie or novel. When she stepped in range of the sensors the doors opened and she was suprised to see an elderly woman and a less than fit man. "Lieutenant Folicia Turprine reporting for duty, you wouldn't be the captain would you?" She said, her stance stiff at first, but soon taking a relaxed swing of the hip into balanced position on both feet.

Commander Hamilton felt a little more at ease in the presence of the cheerful engineer. In many ways he reminded her of her eldest son, both had the same sort easy-going aura. Dana was on the verge of answering the engineer's question when a young, blonde haired woman shuffled into the room. Dana immediately recognized her as the part-Vulcan Lieutenant Turprine. The woman, stated her name and rank in a very proper manner. "Yes, I was just informing Commander Haydn that we have indeed been assigned a new captain." She explained, pulling out her touch screen. "He is scheduled to come aboard the Endevour shortly. That's why you've been called, we're to meet him here."

Major Tom strolled down the empty halls of the Endevour, it was a nice ship, he could imagine his new life aboard this thing as being an interesting one. Tom ran his hand across the wall as he walked, trying to get a literal feel for the place that would become his new home. He knew he was late in arriving, but he made to attempt to hurry his pace, the ready room wasn't that far so there was no use in exhorting more energy than necessary. Coming to the door he paused momentarily for them to open. Inside stood three figures, a blonde woman, Commander Haydn who he'd met at the bar and an elderly woman who surely must be the captain. "What'd I miss?" He said, as he entered the room.

Post by Ensign Nuitanna Nyx on Jun 11, 2009 23:54:18 GMT -5
Ensign Nuitana Nyx strode confidently through the corridors. She'd had a rather lengthy conversation the night before with another crew member, and she hoped that she would get the chance to see the woman again. After leaving the mess hall, she'd been up late, double checking that all her things were packed and in order, and making sure that her collection of music was loaded on her touch pad. Generally, she was able to function well on 3-4 hours sleep, and that was about all she'd gotten. The young Betazoid woman didn't look as if she was suffering from lack of sleep at all. There were no dark circles under her black eyes, her hair was perfectly swept up into the tight bun she kept it in when on duty, and her uniform was pressed and in good order.
She was curious to know what the meeting was all about, but she had to really work to rein herself in. Despite the fact that she was the chief comm officer, she was still just an ensign, in a room where everybody outranked her. If she screwed up, she could really do some damage to her fledgeling career. Her empathic abilities began to pick up on a jumble of emotions as she approached the ready room doors. Nervousness, ambivalence, surprise. It didn't seem like there were a lot of people in the room just yet, so at least she knew she wasn't late in arriving or something like that.
Nyx entered the room as Commander Hamilton explained that the Endeavor now had a captain. The young woman caught herself before she could question the older woman. How would it look if she didn't introduce herself at least? The others in the room would think she was just some random ensign, poking her nose in where it wasn't wanted.
"Ensign Nuitanna Nyx, communications..."
She bit her lip a moment...as curiosity nibbled away at her. Did they really have a captain? And just who was he? Finally, the young ensign simply couldn't stand it.
"So, we have a captain now? Who is he? When's he due to arrive?"

Tony glanced up as Lt. Turprine entered the ready room. He smiled a little at the young woman, nodding in greeting to her. He would've introduced himself, but Commander Hamilton handled that...as well as handled answering his question from before. So they finally had a captain huh? Well, that was certainly good news indeed! That meant they were closer to getting out of dock and into space. When Tom entered, his smile widened...and faltered as right on his heels, a young woman who looked as if she'd just graduated Starfleet Academy strode in, introducing herself as their communications officer. Odd that they were being given an ensign for such an important position. Still, Starfleet had to have had their reasons regarding such an appointment, he supposed.
"What'd I miss?"
"So, we have a captain now? Who is he? When's he due to arrive?"
In a most casual manner, he answered, "Tom, you've missed spending time with Commander Hamilton and myself and not much else. That and the news that Endeavor finally has a captain."
His gaze moved back to the older woman in crimson.
"Perhaps you could answer the eager ensign's questions, Commander?"

Dana moved her finger across the touch pad to access the information on the new captain as two more officers entered the ready room. One was a ginger-haired, lanky man with a blasé demeanor, who did not introduce himself, even though the Commander recognized him from the crew roster. She was thankful that she had spent such time trying to remember all of the names and faces of the senior staff, she couldn't have herself looking like a forgetful old woman in front of the crew. The other officer who entered the room was a dark-haired young woman who immediately introduced herself and then began to ask questions.
"Perhaps you could answer the eager ensign's questions, Commander?" Dana cleared her throat. "Yes. Your captain's name is Curtis Howard, previously of the USS Divinity. He should be arriving soon, I believe." Now that the room was occupied by more officers Dana felt the uneasiness returning, though she refused to show it.

Irvine entered the ready room and looked about. He had quite a look about him. He looked quite confident and approachable. He walked over to Dana with a smile. "Chief operations officer Irvine Wolf reporting sir..." he said putting his hand behind him. "Is there anything I can assist with?" He asked eager to let her know he would do all he could to aid in preparation.

Curtis grumbled to himself as he speed-walked through the ship towards the captains ready room. His transfer orders had only come round, which had made him believe that he was not the only one being considered for the captain post but in any case he had won, unfortunatly it meant he couldn't be there before the crew. Of course he was also made a little later by the fact he had to say goodbye to his family...that was the hardest part by far, he'd already missed so much in his daughter's life, what would she be like when he came back? that was the thought he tried to push out of his head as he walked to the door. He straightened out his uniform, despite the fact the clothing was creasless and with a hiss the door slid open. He stepped in, his shiney boots making a clak clak on the floor. So this was his crew? or at least the senior parts of it. He saluted the group quickly before proceeding with "Welcome, I apologise for keeping you you" He didn't know anone on the ship but the older looking woman in the room looked the most senior, curiously he asked "Is this everybody? or are we expecting more?"

Overly relieved to see the captain walk in, Dana straightened her postured and returned the captain's salute. "Second officer Dana Hamilton here, sir." she stated in a most official tone. "Time is running short at the moment, sir. It would be best if we didn't wait." Dana moved to stand behind her appointed chair at the long, glossy desk. "Everyone, please take your seats and we shall begin."

Tom studied the captain as he entered the room. So this was the man who would command them from now on. He seemed like a decent kind of guy, a bit straight-laced but that was probably what was needed on this ship. "Everyone, please take your seats and we shall begin." He looked at Commander Hamilton briefly and then went to take his seat. The commander and the captain were an odd couple, from the looks of them one would assume that their ranks would be reversed, but this was not the case aboard the Endevour. Tom was beginning to believe that he would never understand Starfleet.
