Star Fleet Records Personnel File
Name: Commander Tony Haydn
Gender: Male
Age: 42
Species: Human
Home planet/Country/Nationality: Earth, San Francisco USA, American
Affiliation: United Federation of Planets
Occupation Chief Engineer
Blood Type: A
Height: 5'5"
Weight: 160lbs
General Appearance: Tony Haydn is far from what most individuals would consider the 'ideal' model of a Star Fleet officer. He's short, pudgy, and seems to lack the steely gaze often needed to intimidate insubordinate crewmen into getting their acts together. His hair is a mouse brown and kept short. He's developing what looks to be the beginnings of a bald spot on the back of his head, and has a receding hairline. His eyes are a soft brown shade. His face is rounded, with a bulbous looking nose, and the barest hint of a double chin. His hands are calloused, due to his years he's spent in his career as an engineer. Star Fleet regularly overlooks Haydn's less than stellar physique, because he's proven time and again that in times of crisis he can keep up with no problems, has no health issues to be concerned with...and quite frankly, he's not in a combat position. One doesn't have to be a body builder to make a duty roster, check the warp core, and basically make sure that anything system-related isn't completey FUBAR'd, right?

Psychological Profile
Basic Personality: Tony is very laidback, which is rather odd considering he's a chief engineer and part of the Endevour's senior staff. In times of crisis, he's able to think calmly and cooly, at times coming across as if he's just dragging his feet. This is far from the truth, and those that observe Hadyn closely will note that he's a very hardworker. He's very impartial when it comes to the engineering crew, and would never assign his men a task that he wouldn't do himself. He's not a fan of drama, and at best tolerates people who over-react over little things.
Faults:
Overearnest - Sometimes in his zeal to get a particular task done, Tony tends to spread himself too thin. While he is a master of multi-tasking, he can't be everywhere at once.
Over socializes - Tony likes to socialize with his fellow crew members, and oft-times doesn't notice if they aren't in the mood to do so. Be warned if you want time to yourself in the mess hall and Hadyn catches you...
Lackadaisical? - Or is he? This is a fault, because a captain new to dealing with Tony can have a hard time telling whether the man genuinely has an interest in what he's doing or if he's just that damn casual about the whole 'engineering' thing.
Strengths:
Hardworking - When Tony's in engineering, there is no such thing as 'stop.' While he may not look like he's putting a lot of effort into what he's doing, Hadyn probably works harder than any other chief officer in the Fleet, making damn sure that if something goes wrong in a tight situation, it WON'T be the fault of poor engineers not doing their jobs.
Fair - When things do go wrong, Hadyn's been known to handle the situation in a sensible and fair manner, rewarding valiant efforts on the part of his men when necessary (after all...if something's defective from the get go, you can't really fault some poor ensign just new to his shiny engineer uniform)...and punishing misdeeds in quiet (Tony would never call someone out publicly for reprimand, unless forced to do so).
Lively - Despite the fact he looks like he'd be more comfortable sipping an apple martini on some sunny beach in the Holodeck, Tony is actually a pretty active guy. He loves to dance (a little known fact, he is a very accomplished dancer...he claims his wife Alanis taught him all he knows), and often throws 'gatherings' in the Holodeck, reminescent of the high society gatherings seen in black and white films.
History: Tony Hadyn was born in San Francisco. His father was an instructor at Star Fleet Academy, and his mother was an accomplished chef, who owned several upscale bistros throughout California. There was no tragic background, no horrible unhappy childhood to contend with. The Hadyn's were quite a happy little family unit. At an early age, Tony demonstrated a love for 'fixing' things, by dismantling different appliances in the Hadyn home. Eventually, he was enrolled in a prep school, mostly known for preparing for Star Fleet Academy. He wasn't upset about the matter (with exception for a brief summer when he was 16...he'd fallen in 'love' with a girl who wanted to go into theatre and immediately decided that's what he wanted to do...it was short lived, when the girl dumped him for a musician), and graduated with top honors. He went straight into Star Fleet Academy, focusing his studies on engineering in specific. He met the woman who would later become his wife while in attendance at the Academy.
After graduating, Tony was posted to the USS Impala. He and the rest of the crew spent neary 10 years in the Alpha Quadrant. What the young man hadn't learned in textbooks, he quickly learned in hands on experience under the watchful eye of the Impala's chief engineer. By the time the ship had been decomissioned, Tony had made Lt. Commander rank. His next posting was the USS Argos. A freak accident occurred while exploring a gaseous anomaly during the ship's tour of the Beta Quadrant. The chief engineer and a few crewmen were killed, and rather than wait weeks for a new chief engineer to be sent their way, the Argos' captain appointed Tony to that position. Up until recently, this is where the remainder of his service with Star Fleet has been. It was while serving on the Argos that Tony was promoted to commander. To be promoted to captain, he had to take the Bridge Officer's Test...
While studying to be an engineer had been easy for him, Tony found Bridge Officer's training to be the most difficult thing he'd ever encountered. He barely passed the test...and vowed he would never use what he'd learned for that test ever again. He simply wasn't comfortable ordering an entire ship of people to do things he had no hands-on experience with, and though he normally wasn't one to sweat under pressure, he felt like he was at his wits end trying to pass the test.
Because he has yet to put forth any effort to seek a further promotion (which would put him in the most competitive rank in Star Fleet, that of captain), he has sat at Commander for quite sometime...and is quite content to stay at that rank until his retirement. Tony has recently been asked to transfer to the Endevour, to serve in the chief engineer's position. He agreed, siting issues with internal politics developing within the Argo's command staff as being 'more than enough for this old man to take.'
